Gerallt Breese Richards was educated at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph and Bangor University where he studied Electrical Engineering. After gaining his PGCE he worked as a maths and science teacher before joining an IT start-up in London. He worked in the IT industry as a programmer, analyst, lecturer and project manager for companies such as BT, IBM, Reuters and Tesco, where he worked on the small team that developed the tesco.com online shopping site. In 2005 he returned to Wales with his family and worked as a maths teacher and head of year at Ysgol y Berwyn, Y Bala until the school closed in 2019. He also tutored small groups and individual pupils in GCSE and A level maths at Aran Hall School - an independent special school in Dolgellau. Alongside his work in schools he has a successful freelance portfolio which includes running programmes such as retraining for the workplace and adult numeracy courses for Llandrillo College. He has been a successful maths tutor for over 20 years.

Outside work he enjoys cycling and mountaineering.
